Black Caucus

Black, Progressive,
and Proud.

A SPACE FOR US, BY US

The Black Caucus is a space and a community through which we work through unique challenges facing Black leadership. It is a group that celebrates and affirms one another and a source of emotional support through tough moments. We promote fellowship and invest in the health, well-being, and sustainability of our members.

As the first Local Progress identity caucus, we bring a new intentional courage to the network to live into our values and challenge practices of anti-Blackness. In our relationship with the broader LP network, we are committed to uplifting the policies that are specifically intended to positively impact Black communities.

“While serving as a local elected official is not the easiest role, I found it to be one of the most rewarding. Especially in this moment we are in, in our country related to public health, the economy and other crises that impact people’s lives, gathering with other leaders throughout the year but also during a convening is vital for reflection, recharging, support and finding joy, making the Black Caucus such a key space to be.”

Black Caucus Leadership Committee

As a membership organization, we believe our work is most impactful when it is informed and guided by members. The Black Caucus is guided by a leadership committee and two co-chairs who meet monthly to help outline a vision and shared strategy.
