Ten Cities Ban Rental Price Fixing

A wave of localities across the country are taking action to protect renters! With Seattle, Santa Monica, and Hoboken passing legislation to ban rental price fixing this summer, that now makes TEN cities who have fought back  against the corporate greed and collusion that is driving up rents on working families. Local Leaders are Holding the Line on Immigration

Local resistance to the Trump Administration’s harmful anti-immigrant agenda is strong, and growing stronger by the day! In the face of relentless federal attacks, localities nationwide are fighting back and publicly affirming their commitment to protecting immigrants. Durham leaders, including LP member Nida Allam, condemned the presence of ICE agents at the Durham County Courthouse. San Diego voted to create a training program to ensure small businesses in the county know their rights and how to best protect their communities in the event of ICE raids. King County passed a motion limiting its cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. LP Board Member and Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda said, “Local jurisdictions must, in this moment, be the last line of defense.”

⛰️ Local Progress Colorado Members Demand Action to Protect Public Lands

Last week, 20 of our Colorado members sent a letter to their federal delegation demanding immediate action to protect Colorado’s public lands. While the big public lands sell-off was ultimately excluded from the recent budget bill, the Trump administration still pushed forward a number of devastating cuts to public land management programs. With 22 million acres (nearly a third of the state) reserved for public use, these cuts will ultimately lead to more wildfires, more public land misuse, and fewer opportunities for residents to enjoy Colorado’s natural beauty. In the letter, local officials outlined how they need the federal delegation to step up and defend Colorado’s natural gifts. Read their letter →

đź’Ş Greg Casar Is Organizing to Win

Former LP Co-Chair and now Congressman Greg Casar was featured in a profile in the American Prospect. In January, Casar became the tenth chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, reviving its populist roots and focusing on an anti-oligarchy message. “He’s not just interested in symbolic victories,” said one of Casar’s colleagues. “He’s about what is going to deliver a victory for working people.” Read the profile →

📣 What the Billionaire Tax Scam Means For Our Communities

All to give themselves – and their billionaire donors – massive tax cuts. In this dire moment, local leaders will be the first line of defense to support our communities against a hostile federal government. 💻 The People’s AI Action Plan

The Trump administration’s forthcoming AI Action Plan will center tech industry interests and lead to the unrestrained, unaccountable roll-out of AI into every part of our lives. But the advancement of AI must deliver first and foremost for the American people. As oil companies invest in AI, striking major infrastructure deals and powering data centers, we can’t afford to let Big Tech and Big Oil lobbyists write the rules. LP is proud to be among the 90+ organizations demanding an AI policy agenda that puts the interests and lives of people first. We all have concrete, actionable ideas for an AI agenda that furthers the interests of everyday people and challenges the tech billionaire agenda we’ll see from the White House. Learn more about the People’s AI Action Plan, and learn more about what local leaders need to know about AI in our report on Local Leadership in the Era of Artificial Intelligence And the Tech Oligarchy.
