IMPORTANT NOTE to our trans and gender non-conforming members and allies: On April 13, Missouri’s attorney general announced new restrictions on gender-affirming care for children and adults. The rule is set to take effect April 27 and expire next February, though legal challenges may impact that timeline. As our national convening is being hosted in Missouri, we acknowledge the pain, anger, and emotional trauma of this news, and also understand the very real logistical implications this may have on those wishing to attend. We wholeheartedly understand if you wish to opt-out of the event this year or need to cancel your registration. Whether you plan to attend or not, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the LP team with questions, concerns, advice, or requests about how we can show up for each other. We are committed to doing everything possible to ensure everyone feels safe and can show up as their whole selves.

Local Progress is a movement of local elected officials fighting for racial and economic justice. We build power with community to reshape what’s possible in our localities.
On April 13, Missouri’s attorney general announced new restrictions on gender-affirming care for children and adults. The rule is set to take effect April 27 and expire next February, though legal challenges may impact that timeline. Separately, on May 10, the Missouri legislature passed a similar bill to ban gender-affirming care to minors.
This is an egregious attack on transgender and gender non-conforming Missourians and their families – and represents the latest efforts by anti-LGBTQ+ political extremists across the country to further marginalize trans communities.
We stand with transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people in Missouri, across the country, and around the world. Making sure everyone can live a safe and healthy life means ensuring people have access to lifesaving healthcare. Local leaders can and must continue to advance reproductive freedom and protect bodily autonomy – and that includes gender-affirming care.
