I am angry and fired up.
As an Angeleno, as an immigrant, and as the leader of a network of more than 1,500 local elected officials advancing racial and economic justice, I am grieving the families being ripped apart, I am furious to witness the constant lawless actions of this administration, and I am fired up to protect our communities.
We know that the Trump administration is using my home state, California, as a testing ground to see how far it can go as it ramps up authoritarian tactics. We are at an inflection point for our First Amendment right to protest, our freedoms, and our democracy. We must stand strong against fascism and authoritarianism.
🧰 Resources to Protect Our Communities and Uphold Democracy and Freedom
|
We are seeing textbook authoritarian playbook play out: raids designed to stoke and prey on fears, manufacture chaos, and divide communities by scapegoating our immigrant communities. While this administration sows chaos by spending millions of dollars to deploy the military for exercising our First Amendment rights, they are also simultaneously trying to cut Medicaid and other health coverage, funding for our kids’ schools, and programs like SNAP that help put groceries on the table.
Even as we know this isn’t the end of this administration’s cruel actions, we’re grateful for local leaders like you who courageously and unequivocally stand in solidarity with our immigrant friends, neighbors, and family members. Our 1,500 strong network is driven by the belief in welcoming our neighbors, keeping families together, and that our strength comes from the deep interconnectedness of our communities to build thriving and safe communities. We hope these resources are helpful in your efforts. Thank you for being a part of our movement.
As always, please reach out to the LP team for any further support we can provide. We will protect each other, keep one another safe, and uphold democracy and freedom, together.
