In response to the Trump Administration’s violent immigration raids in California and increased militarization of our communities nationwide, Local Progress released the following statement:
“An attack on one is an attack on all.
As a network of over 1,500 local elected officials across the country, we know that our communities are stronger together. Our members are on the ground in LA and across the country, standing strong alongside their neighbors. What is happening right now is textbook authoritarianism: ICE raids designed to prey on fears, manufacture chaos, and divide people by scapegoating our immigrant neighbors; illegal deployment of the military to suppress and brutalize protesters; and the arrest of political dissenters and local leaders like SEIU California President David Huerta.
This is a key moment for our First Amendment right to protest, our freedoms, and our democracy. We unequivocally stand in solidarity with immigrants and those in California, Chicago, Houston, and cities across the country who are taking action to defend those rights. We know that these tactics from the Trump administration – ripping families apart, surveillance and raids in schools and hospitals, and holding people in horrific conditions – only endanger us all. True public safety means funding healthcare, housing, and education – but this administration is hell bent on spending over one hundred million dollars to deploy the military and terrorize our communities, fund tax cuts for billionaires, and distract us from its own failures.
We’re not falling for it. We must stand strong against fascism and authoritarianism. We must protect and defend each other.”
