We are excited to announce our second annual Local Progress TX State Convening is taking place on April 17th and 18th at the Crowne Plaza Downtown in the city of Dallas!

REGISTRATION IS OPEN! The deadline to register is March 20, 2020.

Our state network has made significant strides over the last years from securing paid sick leave for over 300,000 workers in the city of Dallas to decriminalizing marijuana in Austin to establishing the second-ever state chapter in the national Local Progress network. We are inviting you to join one hundred other local progressive elected officials to build power with underrepresented communities, share bold ideas and policy among our network, and fight to reshape what is possible in our localities all across the Lone Star State.

The theme of this year’s gathering is Building a Texas for All: Decarceral Agenda 2020. We will discuss innovative ways to stabilize and nourish communities outside of criminalization by advancing policies that positively impact the intersections of education, housing, technology, and jobs. Study after study shows that a living wage, access to holistic health services and treatment, educational opportunity, and stable housing are far more successful in reducing crime than incarceration.

We will begin our convening at 9 AM on Friday, April 17th and end around 4:30 pm on Saturday, the 18th. If you are planning on asking for financial aid for travel, the deadline to register for the convening is Friday, March 20, 2020.

A new addition this year for our members is on Thursday, April 16, when we will hold our Progressive Governance Academy Training, a joint venture of Local Progress, re:power (formerly Wellstone Action) and the State Innovation Exchange (SiX).

The training will help members understand their roles as local elected officials, and help them build the skills and tactics necessary to serve and win progressive change in elected office. Space is limited for this training, so please let Mercedes Fulbright know ASAP if you want to attend. You should also mark the check box located on the form when you register for #LPTX2020 using Eventbrite.
