Local Progress is the only network for progressive municipal elected officials from around the country.
Our goal is to drive public policy at the local level – an area of governance that is too often ignored by the progressive movement. This failure is particularly acute because:
Cities are where most people live. In the United States, 50% of the population lives in our biggest 35 metropolitan areas.
The demographics and political cultures in cities are particularly favorable for progressive public policy.
For those of us concerned with economic justice, immigrant rights, racial justice, and a sustainable future, focusing on improving cities should be a top a priority. Our approach at Local Progress is holistic – we combine progressive ideals, grassroots organizing, and pragmatic coordination.
We believe that now is the time to fight for a strong middle class, racial equality, sustainable and livable cities, fair immigration policies, and numerous other progressive priorities. We are seizing this opportunity by helping elected officials from around the country pass progressive legislation that can improve and enrich the lives of their constituents.
