March 27, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - March 28, 2017 @ 6:00 pm

Join us March 27-28th in New York City for an important convening for important convening for sanctuary cities and cities looking to advance or expand immigrant protection policies. We will discuss how we can build on the work that many of us have done in our own cities and explore and develop legislative, legal, organizing and budgetary strategies to fight back together.

Hosted by Local Progress and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, this convening will give elected officials the opportunity to:

  • Share communications, policy and organizing resources
  • Learn about ways we can strengthen existing sanctuary policies and best practices for advancing new policies to limit the co-option of local resources for federal immigration enforcement
  • Discuss how we can coordinate to defend against threats to defund sanctuary cities at the state and federal levels including coordinated organizing, communications and litigation strategies
  • Build coalitions to push back against state-level preemption
  • Learn about data policies and practices that cities are pursuing to ensure that immigrants are not put at risk for deportation for interactions with city government
  • Tour the New York Immigrant Family Unity Program (NYIFUP) and learn about innovative models for providing legal services to immigrants
  • Learn about ways that elected officials are protecting, defending and including immigrant communities amidst an expansion in priorities for enforcement and enforcement activities

There is strength in numbers. We looking forward to working with you to build an effective local bulwark against these anti-immigrant policies.
